East Notts Traveller Association (ENTA) was established in 2001, We are a Gypsy / Traveller led organisation based at Tolney Lane, Newark. To begin with we just wanted to run some trips and activities for the kids, we ran a few trips during 2001 with the help of youth worker / teacher Chris Cole from Notts County Council Youth Service.
In 2002 we were aproached by the Children's Fund who had funding available to carry out work with Gypsy / Traveller children (5-13year olds) in Nottinghamshire. We received some initial funding to run some trips during the summer and we went to: Twycross Zoo, White Post Farm, American Adventure park and others.
At the begining of 2003 we received substansial funding from the Children's fund to begin running activities in Newark. We bought two large portable buildings and rented a plot of land on the a site at Tolney Lane. We also employed two Gypsy / Traveller women who work as youth workers within the community on Tolney Lane. In April 2003 we opened our youth club providing activities on three nights of the week. We run arts, recreational and social educational activities. We again ran a summer scheme visiting: Gullivers Kingdom, Drayton Manor Park, Sundown Adventure Land.
In addition to the above activities we host: the Notts Children's Fund Traveller Workstream meetings, Notts Gypsy liason Group meetings , Tolney lane Support Group meetings.
