This page gives some brief information on Gypsy Traveller culture for more indepth information please try the links page

Many different ethnic groups and communities have their own customs and traditions, Gypsies / Travellers are no different in this respect. However, It is important to remember that "Culture" is not static, traditions are sometimes lost and new ways of living are adopted as people adapt to their circumctances and surroundings.

It has been said that Gypsies / Travellers are experts at adapting to their environment. This has been brought about by a need to change in order to survive. Many Gorgers (non Gypsy or Traveller) would like to think that "real" Gypsies and Travellers should fit into the stereoype of the "Gentleman Gypsy wandering the back lanes in his Barrel Top wagon" the reality for most Gypsies / Travellers is very different. As with other minority ethnic groups in Britain, Gypsies and Travellers have retained many customs and traditions whilst also taking on elements of the mainstream culture.
